Things to Know
What's happening this week in Austin ASA
Monday, October 13th - ME Departmental Seminar, ECJ 1.202, 3pm
Dr. Haberman will be giving a seminar on acoustic metamaterials TODAY. The seminar is titled "Snapping Acoustic Metamaterials: Enhanced Material Nonlinearity and Absorption of Mechanical Energy". We'd like a good turnout of Acoustics students, so please come out if you are on campus!
Thursday, October 16th - ASA Student Chapter Game Night, Austin Terrier, 7pm
We will be hosting our second game night this Thursday at the Austin Terrier (3435 Greystone Drive, Austin, TX 78731). Note the change in location. Emerald Tavern didn't have any tables open for the night. Come on out and enjoy food, beer, and board games with your friends! (If a few folks could bring some fun multiplayer board games, that would be fantastic!)
Friday, October 17th - Outreach Meeting #2, ETC 2.114, 3pm
Our second outreach meeting of the year will take place this Friday. Refreshements will be provided and the meeting will be followed by the Acoustics departmental seminar at 4pm. Topics to be discussed at the meeting include:
- Outreach/demos assigned at the last meeting. If you have forgotten your demo, or need any assistance, please let me know via email or text message and we can work together to get everything ready.
- Possible outreach opportunity with the Girl Scouts in November.
- Demonstration lesson on either the Edison Tin-Foil Phonograph or the Chladni plates.
I hope you all have a fantastic week!
Best wishes,
--Ashley Hicks
