Measurement techniques such as laser Doppler vibrometry are used to study the acoustic properties of guitars. Single-point and multi-point vibrometry measurements provide insight into the luthier process and suggest new directions for instrument design. These measurements are also used to create passive digital filters used in real-time string instrument simulations, allowing us to synthesize what an instrument may sound like when completed.
